Diana Ross was born March 26, 1944 as Diane Ernestine Earle Ross at Hutzel Woman Hospital. Second child out of six from a U.S. Army soldier Fred and a schoolteacher name Ernestine. Her parents meant for her name to be Diane but an error on the birth certificate recored her name as Diana. She attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit. She wanted to become a fashion designer. She won best dressed girl at her high school as she graduated in 1962; a semester earlier than her classmates. Diana started singing in a choir at her church. Later her and her friends Mary Wilson , Florence Ballard, Betty McGlown, and Barbara Martin formed the group The Primettes founded by Milton Jenkins.

Later the girls landed a deal with Motown right after Barbara Martin left the group. Then they was named the Supremes, and Berry Gordy Jr made Diana lead singer and renamed the group Diana and The Supremes. Between August 1964 and May 1967 The group had ten number one hits singles. In 1967 Florence Ballard left the group and Cindy Birdsong from Patti LaBelle replace her. Recording up to 12 number one hits The Supremes become one of the most successful groups in American. In 1969 Diana was announced to leave The Supremes and did her last concert with them in 1970. As she went solo she introduced The Jackson 5.
As she went along with her solo career she start working with song writers Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Her first couple of songs hit the pop and r&b charts at number one. Her singing career was doing well so she went on to acting which she landed her first acting gig as Billie Holiday in the movie Lady Sings the Blues. Then in 1975 co-stared with Billy Dee in Motown film Mahogany.The same year Motown made the African American version to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz calledThe Wiz . As she continued to make movies she also made great theme songs to these movies like in Double Platinum.

Her children are pretty success too; Traccee is a actress (co-star of Girlfriends) ,Chudney is a model, Rohonda actress in television movies and soap operas. Ross in college not following the show biz, Evan is a actor (Pride and ATL).
